In Sight : In Mind

26 July 2025

What a perfect way to spend a summer Saturday! James and James were relieved they could catch the final day of Joanne Ooi's fantastic exhibition In Sight: In Mind, hosted at The Gallery, Kelvedon Hall, Essex. The exhibition featured works by Paul Benney, Simon Carter, Fred Clark, Jelly Green, Rebecca Reiss and Lisa Snook. James W was particularly struck by Tannhäuser Gate: Entombment (below), the central panel of a triptych by Paul Benney that combines classical Christian iconography with modern cultural references. It was interesting to feel this work in the presence of Fred Clark's Leda and the Swan, that brings the clash of the wild natural and the human into the same kinds of playfulness with classical and contemporary moods.
