Why do we publish our rates online?

We believe this should be standard protocol across all industries. Uncertainty over the likely charges, or anxiety about asking for them, may deter some customers from seeking our services. At BYRGA GENIHT, we are committed to make our services accessible to everyone, regardless of neurodiversity, disability or cultural background.

Our services

Research

James' practice centres upon material culture history as it connects with the history of thought in England. At locations where there is a great deal to be analysed, it may be that research work in itself will attract a fee. Otherwise, it may be simpler to calculate remuneration within the fee structure for the presentation of Advice (see below).

All call-outs involve clients agreeing to cover travel and other expenses. Presentation of questions to BYRGA GENIHT and negotiations over the scope of work may not attract a fee, however the delivery of advice is at the rate quoted.

The minimum fee for a written report matches the hourly rate (£1000 + VAT), and we have found many clients prefer this method of delivery of advice as we pride ourselves on the clarity of our explanations, and the existence of a written report from us is usually more useful to clients than verbal delivery. However, clients also find that engaging BYRGA GENIHT for verbal advice after production of written reports provides valuable tuition, as well as the opportunity to increase the power of the initial advice and move projects into a higher level. For medium-sized and larger projects, the fee rate usually matches natural thematic sections of work, and 3 or 5 units are usual (i.e. £3000 + VAT or £5000 + VAT).

BYRGA GENIHT holds a substantial collection of contemporary art, commissioned to explain key learning perspectives in the cultural textiles upon which we base our consultancy work. Additionally, the director's library at BYRGA GENIHT holds many rare books and artworks directly pertinent to key moments and learning perspectives in the story of English culture.

An exhibition featuring these items would require detailed planning, however a general sense of our fee would be to see an event starting at the public appearance rate - £4000 + VAT.

If during an exhibition James' interaction with visitors is an integral part of the schedule, a fee will be charged in addition to the exhibition fee itself, at the rate of £1000 + VAT per BYRGA GENIHT representative, per day. Please note that such interactions extend to the social value of personal meetings, and content will not include (fresh) advice in competition with other services.

In contrast to appearances at social events as outlined in the previous section, the preparation of extended public appearances usually requires extensive preparation by BYRGA GENIHT. Consequently, the fee for an appearance of this kind (lecture delivery, or seminar and media participation) is £4000 + VAT. This will usually include a digital visual presentation, explanatory items and artefacts, or both. This fee does not include event expenses.

Cultural asset evaluation

Prior to meeting James, I had only a dim awareness of the contours of the story of the place I am responsible for looking after, despite being intimately engaged in that task for years/generations.

This meant that we under-exploited our capacity to meet our commercial and cultural ambitions and were not maximising our ability to grow and serve our purpose.

The whole experience has been completely transformational and overwhelmingly positive: I understand what is before me, and the scale of what can be done, and I am so glad to know I can call on James and his team for the ongoing support I know I will need with the exciting changes. What has been uncovered is extraordinary, and I had close to no idea it was there waiting to be put in harness.

We commissioned, along with others, James Wenn to deliver a strategic lecture to address an untold story which emerged in the course of research undertaken by Byrga Geniht. An important outcome from our perspective was to ignite cultural forces to address policy objectives around economic development in the area and attend to challenges that local communities needed help meeting. The event was delivered before important partners and was an outstanding success.

Presentation of Interiors

Byrga Geniht was tasked with the representation of several interiors of our important sixteenth century building. The results have been transformational to how the public responds to these spaces, and how we ourselves feel about what we are looking after. We are extremely appreciative of the surefooted way this complex task was handled, and have been delighted by the elevated cultural and commercial atmosphere this commission has resulted in.

The results have been outstanding, and the work was also done (it must be said) extremely sensitively, especially as it also involved consultation across different family stakeholders over several generations.

Business planning/intelligence

Prior to Byrga Geniht being instructed here we seriously under appreciated the space between our business and allied local businesses and stakeholders. I am pleased to report we have, with James's help, been able to unlock significant growth opportunities by thinking smarter in this
area. The consultancy has already yielded exciting opportunities and refreshed existing relationships to perform better.

Heritage Asset Operator

Art curation/acquisition

The story of this house can be overwhelmingly complex for visitors, and we have a responsibility to them to make the atmosphere relatable and welcoming so they can access the story in a gentle way .

It is also true to say that parts of our story got lost in various
tumultuous things over several centuries, resulting in a
depleted collection which did not represent the whole story.

James has done a compelling job selecting art to explain the story and enhance the collections here. It also looks outstanding.
