A blustery day at Long Marston, but a superb event showcasing innovation in the rail sector. Hosted by Porterbrook, who lead the way in new power sources for locomotives, Rail LIVE 2026 brought together manufacturers from across the UK at their Rail Innovation Centre.
BYRGA GENIHT was there because we believe our intellectual property of the rediscovered culture of Britain should inform the next generation of rolling stock design, and we wanted to talk to manufacturers to find out how the sector operates and who makes the decisions. We would particularly like to thank Siemens and Hitachi for all their insight from the manufacturing point of view, Network Rail from the commissioning side, and the Railway Industry Association for their offer of help.
The highlight of the day was a free ride on Porterbrook's HydroFlex, a market-ready prototype train which can switch between overhead power and an on-board hydrogen fuel cell, allowing it to navigate unelectrified gaps in a network.
Everyone made us feel very welcome as outsiders to the sector, and we hope to attend this fantastic event again.
