James D. Wenn lecturing the public at National Trust Sutton Hoo

Each year, James W presents talks and living history on the subject of the life of the mind in seventh-century England as part of the Thegns of Mercia research and education group. Our regular events are at National Trust Sutton Hoo, where a royal burial ground from the seventh century yielded splendid treasures of global importance. Mound 1, which was excavated in 1939, contained the famous treasures now housed in the British Museum, and is conventionally dated to the year 625. This gives added resonance to this year's activities, celebrating 1400 years.

The next event is scheduled for 9-10 August.
