Winchester Cathedral

12 March 2024

Walking around the city of Winchester, one almost gets the feeling that the Anglo-Saxon period never left. It comes from not just the statue of Alfred the Great dominating the high street, but also the Great Hall (Henry III's homage to an earlier time, and deserving of its own post at some point) and the fascinatingly intricate cathedral (above). Potent decoration coats so many surfaces that it is possible to spend hours in there and still not spot everything.

This is a city that has a lot to give in terms of England's story, and BYRGA GENIHT is looking forward to the next visit.
